Water Injuries and Safety Facts and Statistics About 1 in 5 people who die from drowning are children 14 and younger. For every child who dies from drowning, another five receive emergency department care for nonfatal submersion injuries. These nonfatal drowning injuries can cause severe brain damage that may result in long-term disabilities such as memory problems, learning disabilities, and permanent loss of basic functioning. Research has shown that participation in formal swimming lessons can reduce the risk of drowning among children aged 1 to 4 years. Session 1 May 2018- Salvation Army Peachcrest Unit Session 2 June 2018- TBA Session 3 July 2018- TBA Session 4 August 2018- TBA Teaching children basic swimming skills can lower the chances of drowning and we are here to help.
